Wonder Cabinets were precursors to museums in the 14th to 17th centuries, and consisted of encyclopedic collections of natural history, geology, archaeology, religious relics, artwork, and antiquities. Bronwyn Minton, Associate Curator of Art and Research at the National Museum of Wildlife Art in Jackson, will be giving a free lecture on the history of Wonder Cabinets with a hands-on workshop to follow.
Learn about the history of Wonder Cabinets and then create your own wonder cabinet items using found objects, old keepsakes or something strange you have been keeping around for some reason. Display boxes and art supplies will be provided, please bring your own small family keepsakes, items you’ve collected and curiosities.
Workshop participants are asked to provide $15 for the cost of supplies.
