Introduction to Wheel Thrown Pottery
Dates: Wednesdays July 7,14,21, 28
Time: 5:00-7:30 PM
Cost: $60
Instructor: Rachel Green
Location: Lander Art Center (258 Main Street)
This four-week class will introduce participants to the fundamentals of throwing functional pottery on the wheel. We will build a strong foundation at the wheel including centering clay, throwing cylinder forms, and explore how to morph this fundamental shape in to functional pieces including bowls, cups, mugs and more. Students will find their confidence at the potter's wheel, learn to prepare clay for throwing, learn how to transform clay from a raw, unformed ball, into a finished piece, become familiar with applying glazes, and explore the many ways to decorate and personalize pottery throughout the process. Each student can expect to take home at least 2-3 finished, functional pieces of pottery to enjoy!
Have you always wanted to learn how to draw, but were nervous to start? This is the class for you! Art teacher Chrissy Pruett will guide students through basic drawing techniques. We will learn to draw from observation as we use different drawing tools and techniques.
The best part of this class, is we are offering it both in person and virtually for those who wish to social distance! The class will take place in-person and live stream over zoom for our online participants. If you participate online, you will be given a packet with supplies and a link to the class. The online portion will take place at the same time as the in-person class.
